Leaving Your Child at Day Care

Leaving children for the first time can be just as hard on parents as it is on the children; sometimes even harder. There are a few ways to prepare yourself for that first time away from your child and make the transition easier on yourself.

Think of how you would speak to your children about leaving them for the first time and apply that to yourself. Normally you may tell your child that it’s only for a short time and that they’ll have fun and meet new friends. If you apply that to yourself, it may help because it is only temporary and before you know it, it’ll be time to pick your child up.

Consider all of the fun they’ll have meeting new kids and learning new experiences. Think about how they will be able to learn new socialization skills and new learning skills. This may also make it easier on you knowing that your child is in a good environment that can help them make the transition to school easier.

Let’s face it, it’s hard to be without your child all day long while you’re at work or other things you have to do but at some point they will be going to school and this can not only help them adapt easier but it can help you adapt as well. It will also help you appreciate the time you have with your children at home and get that alone time that you may need.

It’s not necessarily going to be easy that first day and the tears may be from you, not your child. However, it does get easier with time and at least there is only one first day; after that, things will become less difficult to deal with each time you have to drop your child off at day care.
